Your Website is banned in Google for some reason? Are you getting desperate what todo to recover your website form Penalty? Ok ! First thing you should do is – Cool Down Take a break for sometime then come back. Here are steps I recommend to follow if you are facing Google Penalty problem.
Before we proceed towards steps. We need to do a brief review of the Banned website to known whether it’s a Normal Website or Affiliate Website? To know this open your website Home page and see whether a customers who is buying your product/services is getting redirected on some other website or complete the transaction on your website! If your website is redirecting buyer on some other website then most probably your Website is an Affiliate Website other wise its Normal Website. I understand that definition given here for Normal Website and Affiliate Website are not 100% accurate. Feel free to do your own analysis before proceeding to next steps.
** Normal Website term is being used to specify those websites where users are not being sent redirected to any other domain.
Steps for Normal Websites –
Check for Google Views - Goto Google Webmaster tools (google.com/webmasters/tools) register your domain and verify to see all details about your website in Google Index. In Some cases Google sends email about possible violations of Google Quality Guidelines. Beside emails you can also find other important details like Crawl Error, Back Links from potential Bad neighbourhood, Keywords proximity on your website etc which can give you a vital clue for Further Investigation.
Check Google Quality Guidelines Docs – In most of the cases we don’t know what exactly we did wrong on our website. Hence its better to know what is recommended from Search Engines. Most Important guideline is Quality Guideline which is listed here - http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769#3 . You read all points one by one and try to relate if your website comply these rules or not. If not fix your website and move to next guideline.
Check Website Log for Most Recent Changes on your Website – Basically this step is required to check what went wrong in last couple of months on your website. If you find some substantial changes refer to point 2 and validate each change for Google Quality Guidelines.
BackLinks Cleaning – Download list of all Backlinks from Google Webmaster tool in Excel. Review each link one by one and remove all links which are not relevant for your website. Specially remove Pharmacy/Porno/FFA sites 2 way links (if any). If you are getting one way link from any Pharmacy/Porno/FFA sites, Make sure to inform Google via webmaster tool email that you are NOT recognising these links pointing to your website. Google will take rest action. I strongly recommend completing this step before proceeding to Reconsideration request.
Send Reconsideration Request to Google – If you followed all steps given above you can assume that your website is now clean. Its time to tell Google that you website is following all quality guidelines hence it should be Considered as a clean website and should be allowed to rank as a normal website. You can send your reconsideration request here - https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/reconsideration . You should read the how to send reconsideration request documentation briefly and proceed to submit your website.
Once your reconsideration request is processed you will get a reply in your webmaster tool account. Turn around time from Google can be anything between 2 weeks to 8 weeks (based on my own experience) or may be more. But if you don’t get reply in 8 week you should send the reconsideration request again.
Increasing Website Authority - After submitting your re consideration request. Try to get some High PR Authority links. Links from News/Government/ Edu websites are generally termed as High Authority links. But it’s near impossible to get links from these resources. So easy way to do is Submit a good Press Release to PR website, Submit informative article related to your website to top article websites. Pro actively engage yourself in Social Media and discuss about your website regularly.
Steps for Affiliate Websites – Guys life is tough for you. May be you can try above mentioned steps. But in sort Google don’t like affiliate website hence chances for recovery is least.
